In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. God placed humanity in the Garden to live in relationship with him. God provided for their every need and he gave them only one instruction: Don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
The man and the woman didn't trust God. They felt he was holding out on them so they took the fruit and ate it, desiring to be like God. In that moment they ate from the fruit all was broken. Humanity's relationship with God was broken. Humanity's relationship with one another was also impacted and the beauty of creation itself was twisted and marred.
God sent his Son Jesus into the world to live and die on a cross and God raised him to life. This pivotal act in human history provided for the reconciliation of all things to God. It paved the way for all things to be realigned under God's loving rule.
In 2 Corinthians 5:18, the Apostle Paul says that "God reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation." God has given us the task of helping people find their way back to God; to be reconnected with God.
We need to make sure Jesus is visible in our world. We need to make it clear that Jesus is who he claims to be, that his love is real, that it is extended to all and we do that by the lives that we live. We are to be, in the words of Jesus, salt and light out in our world. We are to in the world to make a difference for good. We are to be representatives of faith, hope, and love in our homes, neighborhoods, schools, and places of work.
By "Mission" we don't mean "Foreign Missions." We are not talking about what specialized Christians do on the other side of the world. We are talking about what every Christian does where they are. At CrossWay we don't have missions. We are Mission! It is why we exist. We exist to re-present the Kingdom of God in this world to help all things be reconciled to God.
