The writer of Ecclesiastes in the Bible notes the benefit of relationships. He writes in the fourth chapter
9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:10 If they fall down,
they can help each other up.
But pity those who fall
and have no one to help them up!
The theme of relationships is constant in the Bible because we were created to do life with other people, in community. We were not made to be islands unto ourselves. Deep in the human soul there is a hunger for community that will not go away; a hunger for belonging and oneness; a hunger to know and be known, to love and be loved, to serve and be served, to celebrate and be celebrated; to belong without fear of loss, betrayal, or rejection. It's how we were created.
One author writes, "If we are to use the word community meaningfully, we must restrict it to a group of individuals who have learned how to communicate honestly with each other, whose relationships go deeper than their masks of composure, and who have developed some significant commitment to rejoice together, mourn together, and to delight in each other."
CrossWay seeks to provide environments where we can connect with one another in significant relationships. These relationships provide essential traveling companions on the journey with Jesus. We need others and they need us. Community provides us with the strength for Life-change and Mission.
